To avoid that some tragedies occur, public authorities oblige the owners of private pool to be equipped, since January 1, 2006, a device of protection meets standards already laid down by an act of 2003 (published in the "JO" from 01 04, 2003) followed by two decrees of application. These provisions concern only the pools buried in the ground and not those airbags or demountable.
The arrangements for enforcement.

The choice is focused on four types of equipment, but nothing prevents to enhance security by combining two or three of these elements:
1. The barrier and the means of access to the basin (norm NF P90-306). The goal is that these facilities cannot be striding or opened by a 5-year-old boy. They must therefore respond to specific characteristics: height 1.10 m between the two points of support, Poles without roughness to avoid splints or cuts, a gate equipped with a double-action, preferably Automatic unlock system. All these elements must withstand the shocks of 50 kg.
2 Alarms (norm NF P90-307). Intallées on the edge (perimeter alarms) or water (immersion alarms), they are designed to detect intrusion or fall in the pool and trigger an alert tone. It must be quite audible to be heard in the House or the bottom of the garden and differentiate housing or car alarms. They must work day and night and all-weather, overwhelming Chaleur, torrential rains, pierre gel split... Perimeter alarms are composed of poles of a minimum height of 65 cm with infrared laser beams; those disposal include a sensor in water and connected to a box mounted on the rim of the pool. Their orders must be out of reach of a child of less than 5 years and the trigger, be protected from any undesired triggering. The standard specifies that these systems must re-arm automatically after having been disabled for the bath. It recommends that the time between the detection and the alarm is not more than two seconds.
3. A protection coverage (norm NF P90-308). This can be a tarpaulin stretched outside the coping of the basin, a blanket bar, an automatic rolling stock component. In all cases, this coverage must withstand a minimum weight of 100 kg and remain rigid. Of course, the standard also requires that the child can slip under the coverage or the blades of the automatic flaps.
4. A shelter of pool (norm NF P90-309). Like the barriers of protection, it must be realized in smooth materials and highlights and once closed, it must prohibit all access to the children of less than 5 years. But also withstand winds of 100 km/h and a weight of 45 kg snow. However, all pools cannot receive shelter, either cannot be enough dock it firmly that they become the pool in furnace, except to provide insulation structures.
The work of emergency
If the pool is not secured by one of the above equipment, be to carry out urgently. If the House with swimming pool is rented, its owner faces a fine of 45,000 euros and, in case of accident, in a prosecution for homicide by carelessness. To get in good standing with the law and the standards that it imposes, best is to purchase products displaying the mark NF-pool equipment, proving that they have been tested by the national laboratory of testing (ESA) issued a certificate of conformity to standards. And to appeal to the companies accepted this standard.
The work carried out prior to December 2003
If the pool was carried out with a sharp security or work have been carried out so that this security is effective before the publication of the decrees of the law, should nevertheless ensure that this work actually obey the requested standards. To be sure, better do certify the installation by a manufacturer, seller or installer approved by the State.
